About The 4 Horse Series

Named after the outboard John Haywood kept in the trunk of his sedan, the rods in this series are dependable, hard-working and the perfect piece of tackle for spending a full day on the water.

Hundreds of hours went into the development of these tapers. The result is a family of rods that will load with less than 20 feet of line out of the tip but with enough backbone to reach far beyond. Of all our rods, these feel the most like a natural extension of your arm and make the casts at the end of the day as effortless as the first.

These are a convex style rod and feature light tips, creating a true medium action rod with a rather pleasant fish fighting feel.

Two bamboo fly rod tip sections with light green thread wraps and brown trim bands,, displayed alongside a blued ferrule on a natural fur background.
Extreme macro close-up of a stripping guide on a bamboo fly rod, featuring a dark metal frame with an amber agate insert and light green thread wraps, shot end-on over a fur surface.

Three bamboo fly rod sections laid flat on a fur surface, showing snake guides, a dark stripping guide with agate insert on the butt section, and warm blonde cane tones.
Three sections of a bamboo fly rod with snake guides wrapped in light green silk with single turn brown inlays and tip-top guides, the butt section featuring a blued female ferrule, all displayed on a natural fur background.
